On Sunday, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang marked his third anniversary in office with a thanksgiving service, expressing gratitude to God for sustaining his administration through political, legal, and security challenges.
The service, held at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters Church in Jos, attracted prominent dignitaries, including former governors, serving and former lawmakers, ministers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, members of the State Executive Council, and supporters from across the state.
According to a statement by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor of Plateau State, speaking during the event, Governor Mutfwang reflected on the challenges that characterized his journey to office, including the 2023 electoral process, legal battles that threatened his mandate, and persistent security concerns in Plateau State.
He attributed his administration’s resilience and achievements to divine intervention and unwavering faith in God.
“Through it all, I have learned to trust in Jesus; I have learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon His Word,” the governor said.
Reviewing the administration’s performance over the past three years, Mutfwang disclosed that over N16 billion had been paid in pensions and gratuities, while more than N4 billion had been spent on medical assistance for vulnerable citizens.
He highlighted improvements in healthcare, transportation, education, agriculture, tourism, water supply, and peace-building initiatives, noting that the Plateau Specialist Hospital now operates one of the best-equipped laboratories in the country with standards recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The governor also commended the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency and the State Ambulance Service for enhancing healthcare delivery.
Reaffirming his commitment to sustainable development and inclusive governance, Mutfwang urged citizens to remain united and support efforts to ensure peace, security, and prosperity in the state.
He also pledged to continue defending the interests of Plateau people and protecting communities from threats to their safety and wellbeing.
The governor expressed appreciation to residents, particularly women, youths, and children, for their support during the legal battles that culminated in the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his mandate.
On behalf of former governors, Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum (Rtd.) commended Mutfwang’s leadership and urged Plateau citizens to continue supporting the administration.
“We have seen the remarkable efforts of the Governor because he genuinely has the interests of the people at heart,” Atukum said.
Earlier, Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo thanked the people of Plateau State for their confidence in the administration and highlighted achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, education, tourism, water supply, and youth empowerment.
The Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, represented by the Agwom Izere, Da Isaac Wakili, praised the administration’s commitment to peace, unity, and development while cautioning politicians against divisive rhetoric.
Delivering a sermon titled “Thanksgiving and the Call to Unity,” Plateau State CAN Chairman, Rev. Dunka Gomwalk, urged citizens to embrace gratitude and support government efforts to tackle insecurity and promote peaceful coexistence.
“Plateau is under intense pressure from forces that seek to undermine our peace and progress. We must work together in unity to rewrite our story,” he said.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by the President of COCIN, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, represented by Rev. Stephen Panya Baba, both of whom commended Governor Mutfwang’s leadership and commitment to the development of Plateau State.
The service featured special prayers for peace, security, and continued progress in Plateau State, as well as prayers for divine wisdom, strength, and protection for the governor and his administration.
