The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced that there will be a power outage in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi and Yobe, and parts of the Republic of Niger, to carry out repairs on the Mando–Kumbotso 330kV power line on Sunday.

The company said the work is necessary to repair damage to the power conductor on Tower T187, an issue that will force KEDCO to suspend electricity supply in the affected states temporarily.

According to a statement by the general manager public affairs of TCN, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, hereby informs the public that its maintenance crew will carry out annual maintenance on its Mando–Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Line from 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday, 31st May, 2026.

TCN said the maintenance became necessary after engineers detected damage to the power conductor mounted on Transmission Tower T187 along the Mando–Kumbotso route. The fault, if left unattended, could cause a bigger system collapse.

Because TCN controls the high-voltage transmission grid, the repair will require Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, to suspend bulk supply to its feeders in the affected areas for the duration of the work. KEDCO will then relay the schedule to end users.

The company described the intervention as “essential” for grid stability. Officials noted that conductor damage on high-voltage towers can lead to line tripping, voltage fluctuations, and prolonged blackouts if not fixed promptly.

Residents and businesses in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Yobe are advised to plan.

Hospitals, water facilities, and cold-chain operators have been urged to switch on alternative power sources ahead of Sunday.

This is not the first time the Mando–Kumbotso line has undergone emergency repairs. The 330kV line is a major artery supplying the North-West and parts of the North-East, so TCN typically schedules such work during low-demand periods to reduce impact.

TCN closed the notice with a prayer for a safe and successful repair. Customers have been asked to follow KEDCO and TCN channels for updates on restoration time once the work on Tower T187 is completed.
