Aliyu Reports Gains in Sokoto Security Operations Against Banditry

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has on Thursday declared that sustained security operations in Sokoto State are beginning to yield tangible results, signaling gradual success in the ongoing fight against banditry and other violent crimes troubling parts of northern Nigeria.

The governor made the disclosure on while declaring open a meeting of the State Executive Council at the Government House in Sokoto, where he highlighted progress made through intensified collaboration between the state government and security agencies.

He said the renewed security strategy being implemented by his administration has begun to weaken criminal networks responsible for attacks in several rural communities across the state.

“I am happy to inform you that our renewed commitment to ensuring a secure Sokoto State is yielding tremendous success,” the governor stated.

He explained that the government’s coordinated approach with the military, police and other security agencies has strengthened operations aimed at restoring peace in areas previously affected by banditry.

According to him the security challenge has affectef 13 local government areas ofcthe state, but assured that, the ongoing efforts are gradually reclaiming affected territories from criminal elements.

The Governor reaffirmed that the ultimate goal of the state government is to restore normalcy and enable displaced residents to safely return to their ancestral homes.

“We will not relent in this effort until all displaced communities return to their ancestral homes,” he emphasized.

He pledged sustained logistical and operational support for security agencies, stressing that protecting lives and property remains a fundamental constitutional duty of government.

Beyond government action, Aliyu called on residents of Sokoto State to actively support the fight against insecurity by providing credible intelligence capable of exposing criminal hideouts and networks.

He urged citizens, particularly those in rural communities, to identify and report informants who assist bandits, describing such collaborators as enemies of peace who undermine security efforts.

According to him, exposing these informants would significantly strengthen security operations and accelerate the restoration of stability across affected communities.

Aliyu reiterated that his administration remains committed to purposeful governance and policies that will transform Sokoto State socially and economically.

He appealed to citizens to continue offering their support and prayers to ensure the success of government programmes designed to improve the welfare and security of the people.

The governor also commended members of the State Executive Council for their contributions toward policy implementation and development initiatives across the state.

The renewed assurance comes amid nationwide concerns over insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, where federal and state authorities continue to intensify efforts to curb banditry and protect vulnerable communities.
