The Kano State Police Command has reported the killing of two suspected bandits and the recovery of N10 million ransom following an ambush by local hunters in the Falgore Forest axis.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, also left a third suspected bandit injured, while the suspect reportedly escaped.
The command said the suspects had emerged from Falgore Forest to collect a N10 million ransom demanded for the release of 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore Village, Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Aliyu was reportedly kidnapped on 11 September 2026, and held captive for several days before his abductors collected the ransom and released him unharmed.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were ambushed by local hunters known as Yan Bula shortly after collecting the money.
The statement said two of the suspected bandits were killed during the encounter, while the third escaped with injuries.
It added that the entire N10 million ransom was recovered intact from the two neutralised suspects.
Preliminary investigations identified one of the suspects as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle operator from Maigwanda Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the local hunters for their resilience and commitment to supporting security operations in the Falgore Forest axis and neighbouring communities.
Bakori said the hunters’ efforts continued to complement the police-led Operation Kukan Kura, which is aimed at tackling kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes in the state.
The police commissioner subsequently directed the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers and tactical teams operating in the area to intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspect and recover the gang’s operational weapons.
The command confirmed that the rescued victim had been debriefed, medically examined and reunited with his family.
It reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging residents to provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in combating criminal activities across the state.
