The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Wednesday, formally received the gazetted Nigeria Police Force Regulations from the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, at a handover ceremony held at the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Professor Olu Ogunsakin, described the gazettement as a critical step in bridging the gap between the Police Act, 2020, and real-time policing operations.

He noted that the development marks a transition from policy formulation to practical implementation of ongoing police reforms.

In his keynote address, the Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening police reforms and ensuring the effective enforcement of the new regulations in line with national security priorities.

In his remarks, IGP Disu described the development as a major milestone for the Nigeria Police Force.

He explained that the regulations, enacted pursuant to Section 138 of the Police Act, 2020, provide a comprehensive framework for professional, accountable, and rights-based policing.

The police chief commended the Minister for his leadership and acknowledged the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Police Reform Secretariat.

The Inspector-General assured that the new regulations would be immediately implemented through nationwide dissemination, integration into police training and operations, and strict enforcement across all commands and formations.

He emphasized that accountability would remain a central pillar of the Force’s operations.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from key institutions, including the Police Service Commission, National Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Federal Ministry of Justice, UNDP, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to fully implementing the regulations as part of efforts to enhance professionalism, strengthen accountability, and build public trust.
