Donald Trump has announced a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran if shipping is allowed through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran will agree to the end in fighting “if attacks against Iran are halted”.
Israel carried out new air strikes in southern Lebanon on Wednesday morning and says the two-week ceasefire “does not include Lebanon”—despite Pakistan’s prime minister saying it does.
The US-Iran ceasefire was first announced by Trump about 90 minutes before his deadline for Iran to make a deal.
Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator, invited both sides for talks in Islamabad on Friday – while UK PM Keir Starmer is travelling to the Gulf to discuss support for the ceasefire.
Iran is claiming a big victory.
Oil prices have fallen sharply, but energy prices will remain elevated for some time.
