The Federal Government (FG) has announced plans to commence construction of a historic 500,000-housing-unit MEGA RENEWED HOPE CITY within the FCT/Nasarawa urban corridor, described as one of the largest master-planned housing developments in Nigeria’s history.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, disclosed this during an inspection visit to Aso-B in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, the proposed site for the ambitious project.

Spanning about 5,000 hectares and strategically located between Abuja and Nasarawa State, the development is designed as a modern, integrated urban district aimed at expanding housing supply, strengthening infrastructure, stimulating economic activity and supporting the long-term spatial development strategy of the Federal Capital Territory.

The project site lies within a major urban expansion corridor, sharing boundaries with NAF Valley, Nyanya, Guruku, and the NHA Housing Scheme at Mpape.

Officials say the location is central to the Federal Government’s plan to decongest the city centre of Abuja by creating structured and sustainable residential and commercial alternatives through coordinated urban planning.

According to the master plan, the Mega Renewed Hope City will comprise six major districts — Kabuso, Guruku, Yelwa, Gbagalape, A.A. Sule, and Kudu.

Each district is expected to feature affordable and mixed-income housing, commercial and business hubs, schools and healthcare facilities, recreational and green areas, as well as integrated public utilities and modern infrastructure.

The project will be delivered under a structured Public–Private Partnership (PPP) framework involving relevant government institutions and private sector partners.

Under the arrangement, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will oversee coordination and development, the Federal Ministry of Finance will handle financing support, while the Federal Ministry of Works will be responsible for major road infrastructure.

Minister Dangiwa said the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in expanding access to affordable housing, improving urban liveability, promoting climate-resilient infrastructure, generating employment, and stimulating economic growth.

“This MEGA RENEWED HOPE CITY represents a transformative step in structured urban expansion. It is about building inclusive, resilient, and economically vibrant communities that will serve both present and future generations,” the minister stated.

He further assured that adequate compensation and extensive stakeholder engagement would be carried out before the full commencement of the project, stressing the ministry’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and community inclusion.

President Tinubu is expected to perform the foundation-laying ceremony for the project, marking what officials describe as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s housing and urban transformation drive.
