Kano State Government has reinforced security across major markets in the state, including Sabon Gari, Singa, and Galadima Markets, by providing essential working tools to night security personnel and improving their welfare.
The Managing Director of the Market Management Board, Abdul Bashir Hussien, disclosed this while addressing security operatives at Sabon Gari Market.
He said the initiative aligns with his commitment to strengthening market security and enhancing the welfare and working conditions of security personnel in 2026.
Abdul Bashir confirmed that security staff had received their January salaries, noting that the personnel expressed appreciation over a recent salary increase.
He explained that the newly distributed working tools include uniforms, batons, sticks, guns with ammunition, and sweaters to protect guards from cold weather, adding that the gesture fulfilled a promise made to them on 29 January 2026.
He stressed that effective night security in major markets such as Sabon Gari requires adequate arms and equipment, urging the personnel to remain honest, disciplined and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.
He also warned against the collection of illegal N20 levies from traders, describing the practice as unacceptable and one of the reasons the board approved a salary increase of between 30% and 50%.
According to him, night security guards were earning as low as N14,000 when he assumed office, but their salaries have now been raised to N20,000 and above.
He thanked Allah (SWT) and expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf noted that all achievements recorded were made possible through the governor’s approval and support.
