The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi has gained over 500 new members in the Central Senatorial District, following defections from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and other parties.

The defectors were received by the state PDP Chairman, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, in Okene during the official flag-off of Hon. Abdulkabir Okaka Ohiani Itopa’s bid for the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat in 2027.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Gambo, flanked by key PDP leaders, highlighted the party’s enduring dominance in the Central district since 1999.

He expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in 2027 and called on members to support Itopa’s candidacy.

He also praised Senator Natasha Akpoti Udaughan’s contributions and urged residents to back the PDP, describing it as “the party owned by the people.”

The defectors, led by Usman Ahmed, cited the PDP as the only party capable of addressing Kogi’s current challenges. PDP officials, in turn, challenged the ruling APC to start preparing handover notes, pledging a clean sweep in the 2027 elections.

In a related statement in Lokoja, Hon. Gambo expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim the governorship in 2027, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration and nostalgia for the party’s past governance.

“We are confident that come 2027, it will be a total sweep,” he said, noting that many existing infrastructures were products of PDP rule.

He urged Kogi residents to remain united, assuring that the party’s return would bring development and an end to prevailing hardships.
