The Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has convened a performance review meeting for its beneficiaries covering the third and fourth quarters of 2025, bringing together key stakeholders in the health sector to assess progress, accountability, and impact of fund utilization across the state.

Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zaharadeen, disclosed that the Fund disbursed over N2 billion during the 2025 third and fourth quarters to various agencies and educational institutions.

She explained that the disbursements were targeted at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to essential health services for the people of state.

Dr. Zaharadeen noted that the review was aimed at ensuring that beneficiaries effectively utilized the funds in line with the objectives of the Trust Fund, while also identifying challenges and areas requiring improvement.

In his remarks, the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reminded departments, development partners, and civil society organizations (CSOs) that KHETFUND is one of only three health trust funds of its kind in Nigeria.

He emphasized the Fund’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that resources are disbursed to the right beneficiaries.

Dr. Labaran commended KHETFUND for its dedication to prudent financial management and urged all beneficiaries to properly retire the funds received to facilitate a seamless transition into the next financial year.

In separate remarks, the representative of the Kano State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (KASLMA), Alhaji Salim Salihu, and the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad, applauded KHETFUND for the timely and effective release of funds.

They called on the agency to place increased emphasis on supporting less-privileged and vulnerable patients, particularly those in need of emergency medical care in hospitals.

The performance review meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to evaluate achievements recorded so far and to strengthen collaboration toward improving healthcare service delivery across the state.
