To deepen transparency, accountability, and community participation in governance, the Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME) has briefed the Karaye Emirate on the status of 18 ongoing and completed developmental projects valued at over N18 billion in Karaye Local Government Area.
The briefing is part of the Ministry’s community engagement initiative led by the Commissioner, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila. The initiative is designed to keep host communities informed about the progress of government projects, encourage feedback from beneficiaries, identify implementation challenges, and foster community ownership and sustainability of public infrastructure.
Upon his arrival in Karaye Local Government Area, the Commissioner paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye, the Emir of Karaye, where he formally presented a comprehensive update on all ongoing and completed government projects within the Emirate.
During the presentation, Comrade Sumaila disclosed that the projects include the completion of the 5-kilometre dualised road, construction of a Neighbourhood Security Watch Division, construction of the Waraka Sexual Assault Referral Centre, and the supply and installation of an 800KVA generating set at the Kusalla Water Treatment Plant.
Other major projects highlighted include the construction of the 44-kilometre Janguza–Durum–Kabo–Karaye Road, renovation and rehabilitation of educational facilities at Government Secondary School (GSS) Karaye and Government Science and Technical College (GSTC) Karaye, as well as the construction of several classroom blocks in primary and secondary schools across the local government area.
Speaking during the engagement, the Emir of Karaye, His Royal Highness, Muhammad Maharaz Karaye, applauded the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, describing the initiative as a commendable step that strengthens public confidence in government projects.
He expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the numerous developmental interventions being executed across the Emirate.
“We have nothing to say except to commend His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for these remarkable development efforts.
“We pray that Almighty Allah continues to guide and strengthen him in delivering more dividends of democracy to the people,” the Emir said.
While appreciating the government’s efforts, the royal father appealed for the speedy completion of the 44-kilometre Karaye–Janguza Road in view of the ongoing rainy season.
He also requested the reconstruction of the city gates affected during the execution of the 5-kilometre dualised road project.
“This road serves about five local government areas and is of great economic and social importance. Its timely completion will greatly benefit our people,” the Emir added.
Responding to the requests, the Honourable Commissioner assured the Emir that the Ministry remains committed to ensuring quality project delivery and effective communication between government and citizens.
He further assured the royal father that the Ministry’s Civil Infrastructure Department would immediately prepare a detailed report on the concerns raised for onward submission to the Governor for prompt consideration and necessary action.
The visit further underscores the Kano State Government’s unwavering commitment to openness, citizen engagement, and effective monitoring of public projects to ensure value for money and sustainable development across the state.
