Sankara Promotes Agricultural Mechanization at BUK, Urges Youth to Embrace Modern Farming

Bayero University Kano (BUK) hosted an Agricultural Mechanization Sensitization Programme organised by Sankara Nigeria Limited to encourage young Nigerians to embrace agriculture as a viable business and career.

The programme brought together students, academics and industry experts to discuss how innovation and mechanization can enhance food security, create employment and drive national development.

Speaking at the event, Sururat Sadik Muhammad of Sankara Nigeria Limited said the initiative aimed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in modern agriculture.

She stressed that attracting more youths into the sector would boost food production, create jobs and strengthen the nation’s food security.

A representative of Weichai LOVOL, Vincent Wan, showcased modern agricultural equipment, including tractors, harvesters and precision farming technologies designed to improve productivity and efficiency.


In their separate presentations, Engr. Dr. Ma’azu Dantata Zakari encouraged students to adopt modern farming techniques to support Nigeria’s quest for food security, while Dr. Mustafa Bello highlighted the growing role of innovation in simplifying farming and agro-processing, urging students to acquire relevant skills.

Also speaking, Omar Farook Sali said increased youth participation in agriculture could reduce unemployment, curb social vices and improve security, while calling on government to make mechanized farming equipment more affordable for farmers.

Delivering the keynote address, Engr. Sulaiman Galadanci described mechanization as a key driver of increased agricultural productivity, noting that it makes farming faster, more efficient and cost-effective.

He called for stronger collaboration among government, the private sector and tertiary institutions to accelerate agricultural transformation.

Students and departmental leaders commended the programme, describing it as timely and impactful in preparing young Nigerians to take advantage of opportunities in the country’s agricultural sector.
