A coalition of over 20 civil society organizations under the aegis of One Kano Agenda has lauded the 2026 Appropriation Bill presented by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the State House of Assembly, describing it as one of the most ambitious and people-focused budgets in the state’s history.

Amb. Abbas Yakasai, Director General of One Kano Agenda, on Monday, while addressing newsmen at the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, commended Governor Yusuf for what he termed “a courageous, visionary, and transformative fiscal proposal.”

He noted that the N1.368 trillion budget reflects a renewed commitment to rebuilding critical sectors, restoring public confidence, and positioning Kano on a path to sustainable development.

“A standout feature of the proposed budget is the unprecedented 68% allocation to capital expenditure, which the group said demonstrates the state government’s clear intention to address decades-long infrastructural gaps.

“Education tops the priority list with N405.3 billion, followed by N346.2 billion for infrastructure and N212.2 billion for health,” he added.

According to One Kano Agenda, these allocations signal the government’s readiness to rebuild schools, equip hospitals, expand water access, repair roads, and strengthen foundations for future growth.

The coalition further described the budget as “a statement of intent and a roadmap for recovery,” praising the administration’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and value-driven spending.

On security, One Kano Agenda applauded Governor Yusuf’s firm stance against criminality, especially his declaration that bandits and other violent criminals will find no haven within Kano.

One Kano Agenda also noted that strengthened collaboration between the state government, security agencies, local intelligence networks, and community vigilante groups has boosted public confidence and deterred criminal activity.

The coalition emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains crucial for economic progress and urged continued investment in surveillance technology, patrol logistics, and inter-agency cooperation.

Calling for unity across all sectors, One Kano Agenda urged youths, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, community groups, and political actors to place the interest of Kano above partisan differences.

One Kano Agenda stressed that the success of the 2026 budget will depend on collective commitment and active civic participation.

The coalition encouraged youths to monitor project implementation and promote peace, while advising CSOs to track progress and support government initiatives.

The private sector, religious bodies, and professional associations were also urged to collaborate closely with the government to maximize the budget’s impact.

According to One Kano Agenda, the proposed budget represents “a victory for students, farmers, women, youth, traders, artisans, and all residents of Kano who have long yearned for responsive governance.”

They also called on the Kano State House of Assembly to grant the Appropriation Bill swift and patriotic consideration to ensure the timely commencement of key projects.

Reaffirming its dedication to promoting unity and progressive governance, the coalition concluded that Kano’s development is a shared responsibility and expressed confidence that the state is “moving forward toward a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous future.”
