Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe State have intercepted two government-owned tractors reportedly being diverted for illegal sale, uncovering what sources describe as an internal sabotage network within the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The tractors, part of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s agricultural support programme, were seized on October 22 along the Damaturu bypass en route to Nayinawa.

Security sources confirmed the machinery bore clear government markings.

Over a month after the seizure, no ministry officials—including the Commissioner, Permanent Secretary, or departmental directors—have come forward to claim the tractors or explain the diversion attempt.

A source revealed that attempts were made to quietly release the tractors, but the NSCDC officer in charge refused, insisting all parties involved provide explanations.

His resistance reportedly led to his transfer out of the state, a move insiders say aimed to “bury the case.”

Investigations indicate previous diversions of agricultural machinery occurred under the state’s empowerment scheme, with some tractors allegedly sold in neighbouring states without accountability.

A senior agricultural stakeholder called the incident “pure economic sabotage,” noting that the tractors were intended to support farmers, enhance mechanised farming, and boost food security in Yobe.

The tractors remain in NSCDC custody pending official claims, and neither the NSCDC nor the Ministry of Agriculture has issued a statement as of this report.
