The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, has reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to repositioning the nation’s 115 Federal Unity Colleges as centers of excellence, innovation, and national unity.
She made the statement during the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Principals of Federal Unity Colleges held in Lagos.
Professor Ahmad urged principals to rededicate themselves to transforming secondary education into a catalyst for economic empowerment and national development, emphasizing curriculum reform, teacher professionalization, and digital integration in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She assured participants that the Ministry would continue to support teacher certification and training through the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI).
Speaking at the event, Hon. Dr. Mark Oseni, Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education, commended the principals for their professionalism and pledged legislative support for enhanced funding and oversight.
Representing the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adebayo Adegboye encouraged the adoption of innovative practices under the “Light Load, Stronger Minds” initiative, which aims to boost vocational and digital learning.
Other speakers, including Dr. Iyela Ajayi (NSSEC), Mrs. Eucharia Onodu (WAEC), and Barr. Mrs. Chinedu Amure (USOSA), stressed the importance of digital literacy, ethics, and partnerships with industry. Awards were also presented to the top-performing Unity Colleges.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Unity Colleges through curriculum enhancement, teacher development, infrastructure improvement, and innovative practices, ensuring they remain models of academic excellence and national cohesion.
