The Plateau State free medical outreach sponsored by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has provided essential healthcare services to residents of Shendam and Mangu Local Government Areas, with beneficiaries expressing relief and appreciation for the intervention.
The second day outreach, organized simultaneously on Wednesday at the General Hospital, Shendam, and the General Hospital, Mangu, attracted residents from the Southern and Central Senatorial Districts, respectively.
The initiative was designed to bring healthcare services closer to the people, particularly indigent families, women, children and elderly residents who often face financial and logistical challenges in accessing medical treatment.
Medical teams at both facilities attended to patients with various health conditions, providing consultations, treatment, and specialized interventions.
The exercise also featured surgical procedures, including Caesarean sections (CS), for women who required them.
One of the major highlights of the outreach was the decision by parents of a baby delivered at the General Hospital, Shendam, to name their newborn Caleb in honour of Governor Mutfwang.
The gesture, according to the account of the outreach, reflected the parents’ gratitude for the medical intervention and the opportunity to access essential healthcare services.
Beneficiaries across the two hospitals expressed satisfaction with the organisation and delivery of the program, as doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel worked together to attend to the residents who turned out for treatment.
The outreach was particularly significant for vulnerable households, for whom the cost of medical care often presents a major obstacle to accessing timely treatment.
Beyond the immediate medical services, the initiative highlights the importance of accessible and people-centred healthcare delivery, especially in underserved communities where financial constraints can prevent residents from obtaining necessary medical attention.
For the family that named their newborn Caleb, the outreach provided a memorable moment of gratitude, while other beneficiaries received medical attention that could otherwise have been difficult to afford.
The program is part of efforts to improve access to healthcare across Plateau State, with its activities in Shendam and Mangu underscoring the importance of bringing essential medical services closer to communities.
