Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has inaugurated a series of development and industrial projects in the Qantara West Industrial Zone, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), strengthening Egypt’s position as a hub for investment and manufacturing.

Among the projects launched were new units of China’s Hengsheng Textile Company and Turkiye’s Eroglu Garment. Hengsheng’s $70 million textile factory, spanning 200,000 square metres, focuses on printing, dyeing, and processing.

The first phase has been completed, while the second is under construction, with the facility expected to create 1,300 direct jobs once fully operational.

Eroglu, which has been active in Egypt since 2007, is expanding its footprint with fresh investments in Qantara West.

The group’s total investment in Egypt has grown from $150 million to $450 million, with its workforce rising from 2,500 to 10,000 and sales more than doubling from $150 million to $350 million.

Additional projects are in the pipeline, including Henneway (China) for luggage production, as well as De Sita (China) and High Tech (Thailand) for apparel manufacturing.

These ventures are scheduled to open in phases starting next year.

Situated in Abu Khalifa, the Qantara West Industrial Zone covers 19 square kilometres and is strategically positioned to connect Mediterranean and Red Sea ports, making it a key centre for labour-intensive industries and logistics. The zone’s first phase was completed in July 2024.

Madbouly also inaugurated new infrastructure to support the zone’s growth, including a natural gas pressure reduction station with a capacity of 40,000 cubic metres per hour. A larger facility with a capacity of 160,000 cubic metres per hour is also being planned to meet future expansion.
