To tackle desertification, erosion, and heavy wind hazards in Kirikasamma and surrounding communities, the Kirikasamma Local Government Council of Jigawa State has officially flagged off its 2025 annual tree planting campaign.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Agriculture and Natural Resources Department, Sadi Muhammad Kani, announced that the council had received 1,500 seedlings of Pawpaw, Neem, Guava, and other species, alongside long baskets for planting across the area.

He explained that trees planted along roadsides in Kubayau village would not only serve as protection against strong winds but also enhance the beauty of the avenue.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Farmers and Herdsmen Resolution, Hon. Salisu Garba Kubayau, said the initiative would benefit both the environment and livestock movement.

“The roadside clearance of 20–30 metres will allow cattle rearers to move more freely,” he noted.

The Legislative Leader, Isyaku Abdullahi Doleri, assured that elected councillors from each ward would actively participate by planting trees in their respective communities.

Flagging off the exercise, the Council Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Maji Wakili Marma, urged residents to embrace tree planting and avoid deforestation.

“This campaign is about safeguarding our environment and protecting the future of Kirikasamma,” he said.

The event was attended by the Vice Chairman, Councillors, Advisers to the Governor, political aides, and other stakeholders.
