To reshape the development landscape of Sokoto State, the Executive Council under the dynamic leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved a new wave of high-impact projects cutting across infrastructure, education, religious development, and environmental protection.

During its 7th regular meeting held at the Government House Council Chambers on Thursday, the Council unveiled a series of contracts amounting to several billions of naira, all strategically targeted at bolstering the state’s growth and resilience.

A key highlight of the meeting was the award of a ₦487.9 million contract to Messrs Hassan Multi-Resources Ltd for the construction of a one-storey student hostel at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).

The six-month project is expected to ease accommodation challenges and uplift the learning environment.

The Council also moved to restore a vital information asset by approving the renovation of the burnt section of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Network Centre in Sokoto.

The contract, valued at ₦290.5 million, was awarded to Gidan Kanawa Enterprises with a similar six-month completion timeframe.

To tackle persistent drainage and flooding issues, over ₦228 million was approved for the replacement of underground anchor pipes along the Sultan Atiku-Aliyu Jedo Road.

The contract was awarded to ADB Enterprises and is to be delivered in just three months.

Reinforcing the administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the Council earmarked ₦122.8 million for the procurement and distribution of tree seedlings across the state, a critical step in combating desertification and climate change.

In the religious sector, the government approved ₦122 million for the renovation of Minannata Jumu’at Mosque, preserving its cultural and spiritual significance. The project is also scheduled for completion in six months.

Perhaps the most significant infrastructural intervention is the rehabilitation of Forces Avenue dual carriage road, a critical urban artery.

The project, valued at a staggering ₦985 million, signals the government’s resolve to modernize transportation within the state capital.

Further approvals included ₦318 million for the construction of a modern roundabout at Tafarki Road, Kantin Sani Mabera, awarded to ZBCC Ltd with a three-month timeline. A second roundabout project, linking Tafarki Road to Kantin Sani and Musa Lukuwa Mosque, was awarded to the same contractor at ₦393 million, including additional drainage systems and supporting infrastructure.

At a post-council press briefing, Commissioner for Information and National Orientation, Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, flanked by Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Nura Dalhatu Tangaza, and Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Hamza Isa Maishanu, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering focus on timely and quality project execution.

“These investments reflect the vision of Governor Ahmed Aliyu to transform Sokoto into a hub of infrastructure, education, environmental care, and religious harmony,” Danchadi said. “Every kobo spent will be accounted for, and no contractor will be allowed to derail the momentum.”

The council’s decisions reaffirm the administration’s resolve to deliver tangible progress and meaningful development, ensuring a more prosperous, inclusive, and forward-looking Sokoto State.
