Kebbi State Government has intensified efforts to enhance security and strengthen grassroots administration, with Governor Nasir Idris convening an emergency security meeting and approving the creation of two additional districts in Argungu Local Government Area.
Briefing journalists after the emergency security meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Haliru Wasagu, said the meeting was convened to address emerging security challenges in parts of the state.
He explained that the meeting reviewed the prevailing security situation, assessed existing strategies, and explored measures to reinforce the state’s security architecture to ensure the continued protection of lives and property.
According to the commissioner, discussions centred on reviewing, fine-tuning, and strengthening security strategies to improve coordination among security agencies and enhance proactive responses to emerging threats.
The government reiterated its commitment to sustaining peace and maintaining a secure environment across Kebbi State through closer collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Governor Idris has also approved the creation of two additional districts in Argungu Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and improve local administration.
The approval was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari.
According to the statement, the newly created Yamman District, with headquarters in Gungu, will be headed by Alhaji Abubakar Mohammad Mera.
The government also approved the upgrade of Gwagwange District, with Darikwai Muhammadu Ibrahim appointed as its District Head.
The commissioner said the creation and upgrade of the districts were carried out in line with Section 10 (A) and (B) of the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, which empowers local governments to create and upgrade districts.
He urged the newly appointed district heads to discharge their responsibilities with discipline, honesty, transparency, and dedication.
“Your appointments were based on your track records. Be assured of the Governor’s and the Ministry’s continued support and cooperation as you carry out your responsibilities,” the commissioner said.
