The Kano State Police Command and the Kano State Multi-Agency Taskforce on Drugs and Illicit Trafficking have pledged to strengthen collaboration to combat drug abuse, illicit trafficking, and thuggery across the state.
The commitment was made on Wednesday when the Chairman of the Taskforce, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, Esq., led members of the agency on a courtesy and working visit to the Police Command Headquarters in Bompai.
The delegation was received by the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, according to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
Speaking during the visit, Rimin Gado said the meeting was aimed at introducing the leadership of the Taskforce, presenting its mandate and 2026 operational plan, and seeking stronger collaboration with the Police Command in addressing the growing menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
He commended the command for its proactive and intelligence-driven policing strategy, describing it as crucial to tackling crime in the state.
The chairman assured that the Taskforce would complement police operations through advocacy, public enlightenment, community engagement, and credible intelligence gathering aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks.
Responding, CP Bakori reaffirmed the command’s readiness to work closely with the Taskforce in the fight against drug-related crimes, thuggery, and other criminal activities.
He stressed that the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking requires a coordinated multi-agency approach and pledged the command’s support through joint operations, intelligence sharing, technical assistance, and the deployment of tactical resources.
The commissioner noted that drug abuse remains a major driver of thuggery, locally known as Fadan Daba, particularly within the Kano metropolis, and said the partnership would focus on eliminating the menace.
He also called on parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other community stakeholders to support security agencies by providing timely information and promoting preventive measures to protect young people from drug abuse.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring a drug-free and crime-free Kano, warning that individuals involved in illicit drug trafficking, drug peddling, or thuggery would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
