Veteran Nigerian music producer ID Cabasa has revealed that Burna Boy is the one artist he still hopes to collaborate with, despite having worked with many of the talents he once dreamed of.
In a recent interview with Hip TV, Cabasa—known for launching the careers of acts like 9ice, Olamide, and Reminisce—described his musical journey as fulfilling but said a collaboration with Burna Boy remains on his wish list.
“If there’s anybody I would still want to taste out of my music, it would be Burna,” Cabasa said, referring to the Grammy-winning Afro-fusion star.
The music producer, who heads the influential Coded Tunez label, also hinted at another unnamed artist he admires musically but avoids due to behavioral concerns. “I like the sound of this particular artist, whom I won’t mention, but it’s his nuisance value I cannot deal with,” he added. Though he didn’t name names, many speculate he was referring to controversial street pop star Portable.
Cabasa spoke fondly of his musical influences, citing legends such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, Alhaji Ayinde Barrister, and Chief Ayinla Kollington. He also noted that his upbringing in the Anglican Church played a major role in shaping his love for music.
On the production side, he acknowledged the impact of global icons like Dr. Dre and Scott Storch, as well as Nigerian pioneers Laolu Akins, Nelson Brown, and the late OJB Jezreel.
With a career spanning over two decades, ID Cabasa has remained a foundational figure in the Nigerian music industry. He is currently working on a new project that will reimagine classic Afrobeats songs—a growing trend in today’s music scene.
