The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed operational commanders across the state to intensify intelligence-driven and proactive policing to prevent crime and strengthen public safety.
He gave the directive on Monday during a strategic meeting with operational commanders at the Kano State Police Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
The meeting was attended by departmental heads, area commanders, squadron commanders and tactical commanders from across the state, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed in a statement.
According to the statement, the Commissioner commended the officers for their dedication, professionalism and sustained efforts towards crime prevention, management and control, saying their commitment had contributed significantly to the peace and security being enjoyed in the state.
He urged the commanders to align their operations with the policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and adopt proactive strategies within their respective areas of responsibility.
CP Bakori directed the commanders to utilize credible and timely intelligence to identify, prevent and neutralise criminal threats before they occur.
He also charged them to strengthen engagement with community leaders, stakeholders and residents to build trust, foster partnerships and improve public confidence in the police.
The Commissioner further directed the commanders to intensify public enlightenment campaigns on crime prevention and reporting mechanisms, while ensuring prompt, professional and courteous responses to distress calls and emergencies.
He stressed the need for strict supervision of police personnel, accountability and discipline, adding that commanders must operate an open-door policy that makes the police more accessible and responsive to the needs of residents.
CP Bakori warned that the Command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, corruption or violations of human rights.
He said any officer found culpable of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law and relevant police regulations.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to implementing the IGP’s agenda of proactive, intelligence-driven policing and community trust-building as key pillars for sustaining security and public safety across Kano State.
The Command also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing crime and protecting lives and property.
The meeting was held in line with the vision and directives of IGP Disu and under the leadership of CP Bakori.
