The Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic mob incident in the Mangun District of Mangu Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of eight individuals on the evening of Friday, 20 June 2025.
According to preliminary reports, the victims, travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Quan’pan Local Government Area in Plateau State for a wedding, lost their way and inadvertently entered Mangun, a community under siege from ongoing terrorist attacks.
Unfortunately, they fell victim to a mob attack, which left eight people dead and several others injured. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Mangu.
Governor Mutfwang, who visited both the survivors in the hospital and the scene of the incident, condemned the attack as utterly reprehensible and avoidable.
He noted that Mangun and its neighbouring districts—Chakfem in Mangu LGA and Mushere in Bokkos LGA, have suffered persistent terrorist assaults for over a month, leading to daily casualties and mass displacement. However, he stressed that these attacks do not excuse acts of mob violence against innocent travelers.

Speaking at the scene, Governor Mutfwang stated: “Today is a tragic day for us in Plateau State. It is unimaginable that such a senseless act of violence could occur here, especially given the commendable role many of our youths have played in supporting security efforts against criminal elements.
“That the same youth would resort to jungle justice is deeply troubling and entirely unacceptable. The government will not ignore this act. Plateau must remain a place of hospitality and safety for all.”
He reaffirmed that Plateau State remains safe for travelers and disclosed that he had personally briefed the Governor of Kaduna State and reached out to the Emir of Zazzau to express condolences.
He announced that a high-level delegation would be sent to Kaduna State and Zaria to sympathize with the families of the victims and the Zazzau Emirate.
Governor Mutfwang extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Government, and the people of Kaduna State. He warned that resorting to mob justice, regardless of the frustration caused by ongoing attacks, is unacceptable and has no place in a lawful society.
He directed all medical facilities involved in treating the injured to provide the best possible care, with the Plateau State Government covering all medical expenses.
The Governor pledged continued support to the victims and their families.
In addition, Governor Mutfwang instructed security agencies to launch a full investigation into the incident and ensure that all those responsible are held accountable.
He emphasized that Plateau people are known for their peace, hospitality, and tolerance, and vowed to uphold these values under his administration.
The Governor also condemned the continuous wave of violence in rural communities across Bokkos, Mangu, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, and Bassa LGAs, which has led to severe displacement and a worsening humanitarian situation.
On behalf of the Government and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured, divine comfort for the grieving families, and peace for all affected communities.
