A total of 35 personnel of the Kano State Roads Traffic Agency (KAROTA) have completed advanced studies under a special scholarship scheme.
The human capital development initiative was introduced by the Managing Director (MD) of the agency, Faisal Mahmud Kabir, as part of strategic reforms since assuming office three years ago.
The beneficiaries completed courses across specialized fields, including Motor Mechanic, Electrical Mechanic, and Road Traffic Management, the Public Relations Officer of KAROTA, Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday.
While receiving a delegation of the graduands at the agency’s headquarters in Bomphai, Kano Metropolis, Hon. Kabir stated that the scholarship scheme forms a vital component of his ongoing institutional reforms designed to transform traffic management services in the state.
He emphasized that the initiative aims to change public perception, stating that “gone are the days when KAROTA personnel were regarded as uneducated individuals or a brand of thugs.”
The MD assured staff that the agency will sustain its support for personnel seeking to further their education in fields relevant to traffic administration and logistics.
Commending the graduates for their dedication and academic performance, the KAROTA boss announced that their newly acquired qualifications would be factored into their next promotion cycle.
In his remarks, the Director of Administration and General Services of the agency, Mahmud Haido, congratulated the graduates and reiterated management’s commitment to creating more professional development opportunities for the workforce.
He added that the agency will actively liaise with the Office of the Kano State Head of Civil Service to ensure the smooth formalization of the workers’ new ranks.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yahaya Suleiman Bechi expressed gratitude to the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the MD for providing them with the platform to advance their skills.
Bechi assured that the graduates would deploy the newly acquired techniques and operational experiences to improve traffic discipline and safety across Kano State.
