UK Academy for Orphans Gutted by Fire

Sokoto Jarma UK Academy was gutted by fire yesterday evening.

The Academy, built and sponsored by a Sokoto philanthropist, Umarun Kwabo AA, caters for 176 Orphans Indigenes of Borno and Yobe states displayed by Boko Haram.

The Secretary to the state Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, in the company of other Government officials, visited the scene of the fire to commensurate with victims of the inferno.

The delegation, during the visit, went around the school to see the level of damage caused by the fire outbreak.

The fire incident, which occurred around 5 pm on Thursday, affected students’ hostels, the Principal’s and Vice Principal’s offices, the computer laboratory, and a staff room on the upper floor of the school.

The inferno, whose cause is yet to be known, destroyed clothing materials, mattresses, blankets, and other valuables belonging to students.

Speaking shortly, Secretary to the State Government Muhammad Bello Sifawa, on behalf of the state government, commiserated with the management of the Academy for the unfortunate incident that had raced down the upper floor of the school

He, however, thanked the Almighty Allah as there was no loss of any life and no student sustained any injury from the incident.

The SSG prayed to the Almighty Allah to prevent the recurrence of such calamities.
