Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has applauded the recent judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a decisive boost for the rule of law and Nigeria’s democratic stability.
In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Tambuwal said the verdict comes at a critical time when public trust in political processes is being tested, noting that the apex court’s decision sends a “clear and reassuring message” about the judiciary’s commitment to justice, fairness, and constitutional order.
He stressed that the ruling has effectively resolved the protracted leadership tussle within the party, affirming the legitimacy of the ADC leadership under David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, a development he said would promote unity and institutional stability.
Tambuwal further argued that democracy extends beyond electoral cycles, emphasizing that it is anchored on strong, independent institutions capable of interpreting and upholding the law.
“I commend the Court for rising above all pressures and delivering a verdict that reinforces public confidence in our legal system.
“This judgment is not only a victory for the ADC but also for Nigeria’s democracy and all citizens who believe in due process and constitutional governance,” he said.
The lawmaker called on political actors nationwide to respect the court’s pronouncement and uphold lawful conduct, urging renewed commitment to democratic ideals, institutional trust, and national cohesion.
He maintained that strict adherence to judicial decisions remains vital for sustaining political stability and deepening democracy, particularly as the country navigates complex governance challenges.
Observers say the Supreme Court’s decision is expected to provide clarity and direction for the ADC, while underscoring the judiciary’s role as a stabilising force in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
