Somalia and South Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties following high-level talks in Mogadishu focused on maritime security, institutional development, and capacity building.
Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hassan Mohamed Ali, met with Park Ji-Hyun, South Korea’s Ambassador to Somalia, on Wednesday to discuss ways to expand cooperation under the broader Korea–Africa partnership.
According to Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting underscored the longstanding relationship between the two countries and explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in maritime security, government institutional strengthening, and the development of skilled public-sector personnel.
The two sides also reaffirmed South Korea’s continued support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while emphasizing their shared commitment to advancing sustainable development and promoting stronger bilateral relations.
The discussions come as Somalia seeks to broaden international partnerships to enhance state institutions, improve governance, and strengthen maritime security along its extensive coastline, a strategic priority for the country amid ongoing regional security challenges.
South Korea has increasingly expanded its engagement with African nations through initiatives focused on development cooperation, technical assistance, and capacity building, with Somalia emerging as an important partner under Seoul’s growing Africa strategy.
