Ruggedman: The Reason I Ceased Endorsing Verydarkman

Ruggedman, a Nigerian rapper born Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, recently gave an explanation for why he had broken away from notorious self-described activist VeryDarkMan.

Ruggedman revealed on a recent episode of the Echoo Room podcast that he stopped supporting VeryDarkMan after the activist started prying into people’s private lives.

He voiced worry that VeryDarkMan’s tactics were becoming more invasive and illogical.

Rapper VeryDarkMan likened his strategy to that of a police officer who takes drastic action too soon, implying that, as a professional, there are better methods to deal with similar circumstances.

Ruggedman noted that although he had initially backed VeryDarkMan in his efforts to hold companies responsible for selling goods without the required NAFDAC approval, he was now disappointed in the activist’s recent behavior.

Ruggedman remarked, “I liked VeryDarkMan when he first came out with the NAFDAC number thing, but I stopped liking him when he started getting personal with people’s lives, especially with ladies. I believe he is merely diverting his attention.

However, it would be equivalent to stating that a police officer used a gun as a last resort. They will tell you, but as a professional, you should be accustomed to it by now.

“There is a method to respond to criticism of you, even if it comes from someone else. Your papa, not your mama. Although you don’t see me doing it, that is who I am.

His method is what I find objectionable these days. It’s incredible that he called out those who sell goods without a NAFDAC number, that’s amazing but now what do you hear about him?

“Iyabo Ojo and her daughter kind of thing, that’s why I said it is his approach I’m not okay with. So any response he gets from them is probably what he said.

“I believe that what he stated was a result of Mohbad’s circumstances. The elderly, retired actresses, he claimed, are attempting to use the circumstances as leverage. It was Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, as everyone knows.

You can no longer say something like that and expect a response. Thus, he initiated it. I intended to refer to people’s private lives in that way.
