The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes in its sustained crackdown on crime, arresting suspected vandals, thieves, cattle rustlers and drug dealers in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The Command said the operations underscored its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining law and order, and denying criminal elements any haven in Jigawa.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, operatives on 8 July arrested three suspected vandals and receivers of stolen property in Dutse following the recovery of vandalized electric cable wires believed to have been stolen from behind Hotel Hotel in the state capital.
The suspects were identified as Aminu Mohammed, 17, of Fagoji Quarters; Abdullahi Mustapha, 17, of Zai Quarters; and Sani Umar, 18, of Shagari Quarters, all residents of Dutse Local Government Area.
The police said investigations were ongoing and the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
In another operation on the same day, officers attached to the Dutse Division arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Suleiman Muhammad of Mariri Quarters in Kano State, for allegedly having suspected stolen property.
Recovered items included a PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming console and two plasma television sets valued at about N2.5 million. Police said the items were traced to their rightful owners and released to them on bond, while the suspect would face prosecution after investigations.
Similarly, operatives of the Guri Division, working in collaboration with local vigilantes, arrested a suspected cattle rustler following credible intelligence.
The suspect was allegedly found with three cows believed to have been stolen and hidden in his compound.
The animals have since been recovered and returned to their owner, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
In a related development, the Command intensified its campaign against illicit drug trafficking with coordinated raids on identified black spots in Dutse, Gumel, and Kazaure Local Government Areas.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspected drug dealers identified as Garba Muhammad, popularly known as “Dare”, 50; Buhari Umar, alias “Uban Kasa”, 25, of Dantanoma; and Auwalu Dan Jos, 25, of Kofar Tsoro in Kazaure Local Government Area.
Police recovered a total of 3,427 suspected illicit drug exhibits, including 1,440 capsules of Exol, 258 tablets of Tramadol, 419 Pregabalin tablets, 679 D5 tablets, 80 tubes of rubber solution, four blocks and 551 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, as well as N100,660 suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court after investigations.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved in the operations for their professionalism, dedication and vigilance, while appreciating residents for providing timely and credible information that aided the successes.
The Command reiterated its resolve to sustain the offensive against criminality across the state and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious persons, movements and objects for prompt action.
