Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has announced plans to establish three operational military units in the Sankera axis of the state as part of measures to strengthen security and protect residents.
The military units will be stationed in Agu, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area; Anyiin, Logo LGA; and Azendeshi, Ukum LGA.
The governor also announced the donation of 30 motorcycles to security agencies operating in the area to enhance patrols, surveillance, and rapid response to security emergencies.
Alia made the announcements on Monday in Katsina-Ala during a town hall meeting with stakeholders from the Sankera political bloc.
The meeting was part of the governor’s statewide thank-you tour following his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The tour is also being used to engage stakeholders through town hall meetings organized around the state’s 11 federal constituencies.
On infrastructure and development, Alia announced plans for the construction of a new dam with a projected capacity of 460 megawatts.
According to him, the project is expected to provide water and support electricity generation for the people of Benue.
The governor also addressed concerns over ranching in the state, assuring residents that no ranch would be established without the consent of the people and his administration.
He said his administration would not allow anyone to force the people of Benue to surrender their land for pastoralist activities.
“Nobody will force us to cede even an inch of our land to the pastoralist for any purpose. If that must happen, I can assure you, it will not be this time that I am still the Governor of Benue State,” Alia said.
The governor’s town hall engagements are expected to continue in the remaining federal constituencies in the coming days.
