The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed operational commanders across the state to intensify security operations, strengthen intelligence gathering and increase police visibility to prevent crime and maintain law and order.
Bakori gave the directives on Monday during a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Squadron Commanders and Heads of Departments at the Police Headquarters, Bompai, Kano.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement, said the meeting was convened to review the state’s security situation and reposition the Command for more effective and responsive policing.
According to the statement, the Commissioner commended the commanders and their personnel for their dedication and professionalism, particularly their sustained efforts in crime prevention, prompt response to distress calls and emergencies, and improved engagement with communities.
He attributed the relative peace and stability in Kano to the commitment and teamwork of police officers across the state.
Following operational briefings from the various formations, Bakori directed commanders to intensify targeted operations against criminal elements and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
CP Bakori also ordered the sustenance of round-the-clock visibility patrols, stop-and-search operations and surveillance of identified crime-prone areas.
He further directed officers to strengthen intelligence gathering through closer collaboration with communities, Police Community Relations Committees and credible informants to facilitate swift action against criminal activities.
The Commissioner also called for stronger collaboration between the Police and other security agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to security management across Kano.
In line with a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the commissioner directed all Area, Tactical and Squadron Commanders to adopt “management by working around.”
He said commanders must personally supervise their personnel in the field, provide on-the-spot guidance and ensure discipline, professionalism and prompt response to security challenges.
CP Bakori charged the commanders to provide effective leadership and maintain close supervision of their personnel, stressing the importance of respect for human rights, professionalism and strict adherence to the rule of law.
He warned officers against corruption, extortion, abuse of office and other misconduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Police.
The Commissioner said any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in accordance with the Police Act and Regulations.
He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the people-oriented policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police.
The CP assured residents of the Command’s determination to protect lives and property and urged them to continue supporting the Police by providing timely and credible information through the Command’s emergency lines.
The Kano State Police Command said it remained committed to creating a safe, secure and peaceful environment for residents across the state.
