The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA), also known as Majalisar Matasan Arewa, has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people in Kano State and beyond to take charge of their future and become self-reliant.
The National Secretary of the organisation, Dr. Hafiz Garba stated this in his welcome address at the one-day All Kano Youth Conference held on Monday at Northwest University, Kano.
According to him, sustainable development can only be achieved when young people move beyond complaints and begin to propose practical solutions to societal challenges.
“Dear youths of Kano, history will not remember what we wished for, but what we worked for.
“Let today mark the beginning of ideas that translate into action, unity that births progress, and dialogue that shapes policy,” he said.
The conference was themed “Setting the Agenda for the Development of Kano State.”
Delivering a keynote address, the Guest Speaker and Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, urged youths to rise up and work towards building meaningful lives for themselves and the society.
He stressed that a good and fulfilling life is founded on integrity, dedication, determination, and self-discipline, while also advising young people to exercise patience and adopt strategic planning in pursuing their future goals.
The event attracted representatives from security agencies including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Also in attendance were members of the academia, student union leaders, youth and women groups, as well as media practitioners.
One of the highlights of the conference was the presentation of Awards of Honour to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Waiya, and several distinguished businessmen and administrators, in recognition of their contributions to youth development and governance
