Aliyu Praises Tinubu’s Leadership at 2026 Caliphate Bar Law Week in Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as steadfast and patriotic leadership, saying the President is steering Nigeria toward stability and national progress.

He made the remarks on Monday while declaring open the 2026 Caliphate Bar Law Week in Sokoto, themed “Secured Nation, Secured Future.”

Governor Aliyu noted that President Tinubu has been diligently piloting the affairs of the country and demonstrating commitment to strengthening governance and national development.

According to him, the President’s leadership has continued to place Nigeria on a positive path toward growth and stability.

The governor described the law week as an important platform for legal professionals to reflect on the role of law and justice in safeguarding the nation’s future.

He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and strengthening the justice sector in Sokoto State.

Governor Aliyu also acknowledged the cordial relationship between his administration and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), noting that the state government has taken deliberate steps to improve the administration of justice.

He explained that these efforts include the promotion of judicial officers and the execution of key projects designed to create a conducive working environment for judges and legal practitioners.

As part of ongoing reforms in the judiciary, the governor disclosed that his administration had recruited fourteen new judges seven for the State High Court and seven for the State Shari’ah Court of Appeal.

He added that the newly appointed judges were also provided with official vehicles to enhance their efficiency and comfort in the discharge of their duties.

Governor Aliyu further revealed that the state government had awarded a N4 billion contract for the construction of a new High Court complex, alongside the rehabilitation of the Shari’ah Court of Appeal.

In addition, contracts have been approved for the construction of three new office complexes for the Sokoto State Ministry of Justice to strengthen legal administration in the state.

In his remarks, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, described his visit to Sokoto as a homecoming and commended the harmonious relationship among the three arms of government in the state.

He said such cooperation among institutions was essential for sustainable development and effective governance.

The Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Mohammed Sa’idu Sifawa, also praised the contributions of the Nigerian Bar Association in strengthening the rule of law and promoting justice.

Justice Sifawa commended the governor for his support to both the Bar and the Bench, noting that the interventions had significantly improved the working environment for judicial officers.
Similarly, the Sokoto State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji, applauded the governor for promoting financial prudence and accountability in governance while prioritizing the welfare of justice sector workers.

Earlier, the Sokoto State Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association, Barrister Rasheedat Muhammad, described Governor Aliyu as a hardworking and responsive leader who has maintained a cordial relationship with the legal community.
She disclosed that more than 300 members registered for the 2026 Caliphate Bar Law Week, describing the turnout as the highest in the history of the association in the state.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Caliphate Law Journal, for which Governor Aliyu donated N30 million in support of the initiative.

The NBA also presented the governor with an “Exceptional Leadership Award” in recognition of his contributions to governance and his commitment to strengthening the rule of law in Sokoto State.

Responding to the honour, Governor Aliyu thanked the association for the recognition, pledging to continue supporting the legal profession and advancing justice delivery for the people of Sokoto State.
