The Chairman of the Kano State Multi Joint Task Force on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crime, Barr Muhuyi Magaji, received a courtesy visit from the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kano State Office, in a meeting described as both congratulatory and strategic.
Haj Mero Idi Waziri, representing the NOA State Director, thanked the Task Force leadership for including NOA in the committee and affirmed the Agency’s readiness to work closely with the Task Force.
She highlighted NOA’s extensive grassroots presence across all 44 local government areas of the state and noted the availability of the Agency’s Special Marshals as an added resource for community-level engagement and support.
“We are ready to extend the committee’s activities to the local government areas and beyond, leveraging our structures to reach communities where prevention and awareness are required most,” she said.
In his response, Barr Muhuyi Magaji described the fight against drug abuse as a collective struggle requiring coordinated action from government agencies, community leaders, and civil society.
He noted with concern the escalating nature of drug-related issues in the state and reiterated the Task Force’s impartial approach to enforcement.
“Whoever is found guilty will be treated without fear or favor,” Barr Muhuyi stated, adding that the Task Force will combine firm enforcement with expanded non-kinetic strategies.
Both parties agreed on the critical role of public sensitization and education in complementing enforcement efforts. Planned collaborative activities highlighted during the meeting include:
• Community sensitization campaigns across all local government areas, using NOA’s local networks.
• Engagements with schools, religious institutions and youth organizations to raise awareness and prevent substance misuse.
• Deployment and coordination of NOA Special Marshals to support outreach and public education initiatives.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen partnerships that integrate enforcement, prevention, and community mobilization.
The Task Force and NOA pledged to keep channels of communication open and to develop a joint schedule of activities aimed at reducing drug abuse and related crimes throughout Kano State.
