An 18-year-old man, identified as Abdullahi Aminu, has drowned in a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, with the agency receiving a distress call at about 3:28 p.m.
The caller, identified as Aminu Lawan, reportedly informed the Fire Service office in Danbatta that his son had fallen into a pond.
Following the distress call, firefighters from the Danbatta station immediately mobilised to the scene.
“On arrival, our men found an approximately 18-year-old man identified as Abdullahi Aminu, who had fallen into the pond,” the statement said.
The firefighters successfully recovered the victim from the pond, but he was found unconscious and was later confirmed dead.
The deceased was subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
The Kano State Fire Service expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and urged residents to exercise extreme caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during the current period.
