Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the allocation of plots of land to 1,000 youth groups from the state’s 44 Local Government Areas as part of his administration’s efforts to empower young people and create opportunities for sustainable socio-economic development.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruk Ibrahim, stated this during the distribution of allocation documents to representatives of the beneficiary youth groups. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday
Governor Yusuf said the initiative was designed to provide young people with access to land and create a foundation for future investments, economic independence and community development.
He explained that the allocated plots are situated within professionally planned layouts with provisions for essential infrastructure and community facilities.
The Governor said the layouts include provisions for mosques, schools, security facilities and properly designed road networks.
He stressed that the beneficiaries were being provided with land within communities planned to support sustainable development.
Governor Yusuf said the initiative demonstrates his administration’s commitment to people-centred development and policies that address the socio-economic needs of the people, particularly the youth.
He assured the beneficiaries that his administration would continue to introduce and implement programmes that create opportunities for young people and improve the overall wellbeing of residents.
The Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Umar Garko, said the allocation was part of the government’s broader reforms aimed at improving land administration in the state.
He said the government remained committed to ensuring that public land is properly managed and allocated in accordance with approved plans and relevant laws.
Garko, explained that the layouts had been professionally designed to ensure that beneficiaries did not merely acquire plots, but obtained land within functional communities capable of supporting long-term development.
He urged members of the public to verify land documents with the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning and relevant government agencies before entering into any land transaction.
The Commissioner warned against land grabbing, fraudulent transactions, illegal resale and unauthorised development of government-owned land.
He added that the government would continue its efforts to modernise the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS) and make land acquisition more transparent, secure and digitally driven.
The beneficiaries, representing youth groups from the 44 Local Government Areas, expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the initiative, describing it as a landmark opportunity that would provide young people with a foundation for future investments.
The government urged the beneficiaries to adhere to approved development plans and relevant regulations as they proceed with the development of their respective plots.
