Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has launched a new phase of agricultural machinery and input distribution to farmers across the state’s 16 local government areas, marking the start of the 2025 farming season.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Ilorin, where he was represented by Senior Adviser and Counselor Alhaji Saadu Salahu, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to food security, poverty alleviation, and economic development.
“Our government continues to treat agriculture as a powerful tool for empowering citizens, enhancing rural economies, and generating sustainable jobs,” he said.
At the event, farmers received 16 tractors along with 16 ploughs, harrows, and ridgers. Also distributed were 32,000kg of maize seeds, 18,000kg of Faro 44 rice seeds, and 10,800kg of TGX 1951 soya bean seeds. To improve soil health and productivity, 720 sachets of inoculants were shared to aid nitrogen fixation.
Fertilizer distribution included 5,040 bags each of NPK (20:10:10) and urea, along with 720 bags of Single Super Phosphate (SSP). Various herbicides were also provided: 2,100kg of atrazine for maize, 720 litres of butaforce for rice, 2,880ml of butaforce for soya beans, 4,320 litres of striker for maize, 7,200 litres of rice force for rice, and 720 litres of legume force for soya beans. Additionally, 2,400 knapsack sprayers were given out to help with chemical application.
Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted his administration’s achievements in the agriculture sector, including the rehabilitation of rural roads, expansion of mechanisation services, investment in irrigation, and support for farmer cooperatives.
He encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the inputs to transform their farms and contribute to community development.
Also speaking, the state coordinator of the ACRESAL project, Alhaji Shamsideen Aregbe, said the initiative was designed to equip local farmers with essential resources to enhance productivity.
Chairman of the Kwara State Farmers’ Support and Welfare Association, Abdullahi Ahmed, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, applauding the governor’s continuous support for agriculture and food sufficiency in the state.
