Residents of Kano State have expressed deep appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, and the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, for their timely and professional intervention in preventing the planned Eid Durbar procession by the two rival claimants to the Kano Emirate throne.

The planned Hawan Daushe procession by His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II had generated widespread tension and concern among residents, with many fearing that the situation could degenerate into a serious breakdown of law and order capable of claiming innocent lives and destroying valuable properties.

Security experts and concerned citizens had earlier warned that allowing the parallel processions to hold simultaneously could trigger violence and unrest in parts of Kano metropolis.

However, the decisive action taken by the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Kano State Commissioner of Police in suspending the Durbar activities has been widely described as a patriotic and courageous move aimed at preserving peace, protecting lives, and maintaining public order across the state.

Speaking on the development, the Chairperson of the Women Lawyers Congress, Barrister Nafisa Abba Isma’eel, praised the security authorities for acting swiftly to avert a possible crisis.

“The timely intervention by the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Kano State Commissioner of Police saved Kano from what could have resulted in a major tragedy.

Their actions demonstrated professionalism, patriotism, and genuine concern for the safety of the people. We commend them wholeheartedly for placing peace and public safety above every other consideration,” she stated.

Barrister Nafisa further urged residents of Kano State to remain law-abiding, peaceful, and supportive of all lawful measures aimed at maintaining stability in the state.

Also speaking, legal practitioner and Chairman of Kano Concern Civil Society Organisation, Barrister Abubakar Musa Tudun Wada, applauded the maturity and sense of responsibility displayed by the two emirs in accepting the directives of security agencies despite completing arrangements for the Durbar procession.

“We sincerely appreciate His Highness, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, and His Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for demonstrating restraint and respect for constituted authority by suspending the planned Hawan Daushe despite extensive preparations already made. Their decision has greatly contributed to preserving peace and preventing unnecessary tension in Kano State,” he said.

Barrister Abubakar Tudun Wada further described the decision of both traditional leaders as a commendable sacrifice made in the overall interest of peace, unity, and stability in Kano State.

He also appealed to members of the public to continue to obey the law, avoid actions capable of causing unrest, and support security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace across the state.

Observers believe that the peaceful resolution and suspension of the planned Durbar procession have once again highlighted the importance of dialogue, maturity, and responsible leadership in safeguarding the unity and stability of Kano State.
