Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Tuesday, donated 78 patrol vehicles to the state Police Command as part of the measures to keep enhancing security of lives and property in the state.
During the brief ceremony at Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf said: “As we gather here, let me remind you that the primary responsibility of any government is the provision of security.
“The critical role of the police in maintaining law and order is undeniable.
“That’s why my administration is committed to supporting the efforts of the police.
“The donation of these 78 patrol motor vehicles to all police divisions in Kano State demonstrates our resolve to ensure safety and a serene business environment in the state.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to other security agencies for their unwavering commitment to security in Kano State.
“Your collaborative efforts have been invaluable in maintaining peace and stability.”
Speaking in appreciation, the state Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba said: “It is my honour and pleasure, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Federal Republic of Nigeria, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to be here on this occasion for the launching of 78 New Patrol Vehicles procured by the Kano State Government under the leadership of Abba Kabir Yusuf for security operations of Kano State Police Command.
“This is a memorable event in the history of community policing of Kano State as it sets a roadmap for all to appreciate and see the effort of the Kano State Government in fighting crime and criminality.
“Words are not enough for us to express our gratitude and appreciation to his efforts for prioritizing security and spearheading the evolution of community-based policing in the State.
“The peaceful atmosphere we are enjoying in Kano State today is a result of His Excellency’s dogged efforts as the Chief Security Officer.
“The Kano State Police Command has 11 Area Commands, 78 Police Divisions, 20 Tactical Units and 100 Police Outposts that reinforce security and respond to distress calls.
“No doubt, the Patrol Vehicles come at a time when commercial activities are fast growing in the State and with an increase in population.
“However, this gesture of the State Government will motivate the Command in fulfilling its Constitutional mandate.
“These vehicles donated will be appropriately used to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the State.
“The Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Operational Commanders are directed to ensure the effective use of the Patrol Vehicles to provide security and safety within their jurisdictions.
”Finally, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, we wish to express our esteemed gratitude to the Governor of Kano State, for this wonderful gesture.
“We assure you that this will motivate us to continue to serve the good people of Kano State as we pledge to protect the lives and properties of the citizens.
“We seek for more of this gesture to support us in doing our work diligently.”
