The Kano State Government-appointed Committee investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a female student of St. Louis Secondary School, Kano, has cleared the institution of any wrongdoing, concluding that the student died of natural causes.
The Committee presented its report to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Faruk Ibrahim; the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Tanko Muhammad, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday.
Presenting the findings, the Co-Chairman of the Committee and Executive Secretary of the Private and Voluntary Institutions Management Board (PVIMB), Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, said the Committee conducted a thorough investigation, covering the school’s dormitory, medical facilities, social and recreational areas, as well as the circumstances surrounding the student’s sudden collapse and death.
He explained that the student’s parents were immediately notified following her collapse and that appropriate medical attention was sought.
He added that she was examined by the school clinic staff and a medical professional who was a relative of the deceased’s family, with the clinical assessment establishing that she died of natural causes.
According to him, the Committee found no evidence of abuse, beating, corporal punishment, mistreatment, or any other form of physical harm against the deceased, stressing that the available medical evidence did not indicate that her death was caused by any wrongdoing on the part of the school.
Receiving the report on behalf of the state government, the SSG commiserated with the bereaved family, praying Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased, grant her eternal rest, and give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Umar Faruk Ibrahim commended the Committee for conducting the assignment diligently and objectively, noting that its constitution was aimed at establishing the truth, ensuring justice and sustaining public confidence.
The SSG reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to protecting the safety, welfare and dignity of students across educational institutions in the state, while ensuring that concerns arising from such incidents are transparently and appropriately investigated.
