Residents of Rano Local Government Area of Kano State have been urged to ensure that pregnant women and eligible children regularly visit health facilities for routine immunization to protect them from vaccine-preventable diseases.

The appeal was made by the Primary Health Care Coordinator of the local government, Ya’u Durum, during an inspection of the ongoing Big Catch-Up/Integrated Booster Response (IBR) immunization exercise in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Rano Zonal Information Officer, Abdullahi Musa Gyadi Gyadi, the ongoing exercise is designed to provide life-saving vaccines to pregnant women and children aged 0 to 59 months, protecting them against a range of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Speaking during the inspection, Durum stressed the importance of immunization in safeguarding the health of mothers and children and reducing mortality rates.

He called on parents and guardians to take full advantage of the exercise by ensuring that all eligible women and children receive the required vaccines.

Also speaking, the Area Health Educator, Malam Nura Ladan Kibiya, highlighted the significance of routine immunization and active community participation in achieving healthier communities. He urged residents of the area to continue supporting health workers to ensure the success of the program.

In his remarks, the Rano Zonal Director of the Primary Health Care Management Board, Sani Muhammad Burum-Burum, explained that the Big Catch-Up/IBR exercise was designed to identify and vaccinate children who may have missed previous vaccination opportunities.

He assured residents that qualified health personnel had been deployed across the local government to ensure the effective implementation of the exercise.

The Dan Makwayon Rano and District Head of the area, Bala Garba, commended the Kano State Government and its development partners for bringing the program closer to the people.

He pledged the continued support of traditional leaders in mobilizing communities and encouraging residents to participate fully throughout the exercise.

The immunization campaign forms part of ongoing efforts by health authorities to improve vaccine coverage and strengthen child and maternal healthcare services across the state.
