Governor Namadi Approves N26b for Agricultural Support

Editor

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has announced the approval of over N26b for acquiring tractors and other agricultural inputs, along with a significant initiative to convert water pumps to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

This effort aims to mitigate the impact of high fuel prices on dry-season farming.

During a press briefing in Auyo town, following a youth empowerment program led by a local representative, Namadi outlined his administration’s commitment to making CNG more accessible and affordable for farmers, particularly those engaged in irrigation.

He highlighted that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to support farmers, lower food production costs, and create job opportunities within the agricultural sector while aligning with national food security objectives.

Since his administration began, Namadi has prioritized agricultural subsidies, stating that making farming the central economic activity in Jigawa State is a key goal.

He emphasized ongoing efforts to identify additional ways to support farmers year-round.

The council’s recent approval includes a contract for the procurement of extensive agricultural machinery, such as 300 tractors, 300 disc plows, 300 disc harrows, 300 disc ridgers, 300 tipping trailers, 150 multipurpose planters, 150 rice seeders, 40 combined harvesters, and 80 boom sprayers, all totaling over N26.2 billion.

Additionally, more than N260 million is earmarked for training 30 master technicians in China.

Establishing 60 technical centers across the state is expected to create an initial 2,700 jobs, with opportunities for further expansion.

Namadi urged members of the National Assembly to collaborate with his administration in fostering job creation and youth employment in agriculture, reaffirming his commitment to his 12-point agenda to promote self-sufficiency in the state.
