Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has on Wednesday approved projects worth over N6.5 billion aimed at enhancing road networks and providing critical amenities in both rural and urban communities.

The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Sokoto, where key decisions were made to address long-standing developmental challenges.

While addressing journalists after the meeting, the State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Alla, announced that N100 million has been earmarked for the acquisition of a property to serve as a permanent shelter for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

“This property has been home to displaced persons for many years, thanks to the kindness of a private individual.

“With the state now taking ownership, it will be upgraded to a permanent facility for displaced persons and disaster victims,” Prof. Alla stated.

The gesture marks a significant step toward providing long-term stability and safety for those displaced by conflict and natural disasters within the state.

On the infrastructure front, several strategic road projects were approved. Among them is the construction of the Zurumi Roads at Gawun Nama Market, valued at N123.6 million and awarded to ZBC Nigeria Limited.

A major highlight of the infrastructure package is the reconstruction of pavements and medians on 27 dualized roads within the Sokoto metropolis. These roads include key arteries like Shehu-Shargali Road, Maniru Road, and the Kano-Maiduguri Road axis.

The contract for these urban road upgrades, worth N3.64 billion, has been awarded to Roads Nigeria Limited, with a six-month completion timeline.

Further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to infrastructure resilience, the council also approved the rehabilitation of the flood-ravaged Margai-A-Town Road and critical structural work on the Gebi Bridge in Kebbe.

These projects, valued at N2.71 billion, have likewise been awarded to Roads Nigeria Limited and are expected to enhance connectivity and reduce flood risks.

Speaking on the broader vision behind these developments, the State Commissioner for Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, emphasized the transformative nature of the projects.

“This administration is not just building roads; we are building lives. We are reconnecting communities and securing a future where every citizen feels seen and supported,” Dantsoho said.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s approach to governance has prioritized not only physical infrastructure but also social investment, aiming to leave no community behind.

With this latest approval, Sokoto State is poised for a major uplift in infrastructure, offering new hope for economic development and improved quality of life for its residents.

The administration’s inclusive strategy reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development and social equity across the state.

As construction begins on these vital projects, residents are hopeful that this wave of progress will usher in a new era of opportunity and stability in Sokoto.
