Edo State government has ordered the temporary closure of three schools in the Akoko Local Government Area of the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Edo State, Enodolomwanyi Otamere, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the decision to close the schools follows intelligence reports and advisories from relevant security agencies regarding credible threats to the safety of students, staff, and school communities.
According to the statement, the affected schools are Ososo Grammar School, Ososo, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School, Makeke.
“All academic and non- academic activities in the affected area should be suspended until further notice from the ministry,” the statement added.
The government, however, directed that candidates taking the ongoing West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) would be allowed to sit for their examinations under strict security arrangements and supervision provided by the relevant security agencies and community stakeholders.
Parents and residents of affected communities have been urged to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies, as intensified efforts are underway to ensure the safety of all citizens and facilitate the swift resumption of normal academic activities.
