Army 8 Division Fosters Unity Through Spelling Bee Competition in Sokoto

In a powerful demonstration of unity, learning, and faith, the Headquarters of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, hosted a remarkable spelling bee competition among Barracks School children on Monday.

The event was part of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Reverend Father and Army Chaplain, Lt. Col. Patrick Odira Orji, marking his 25 years of dedicated priesthood.

“The event was more than just academic excellence, it was aimed at transcending the spirit of harmony, religious and ethnic boundaries between Muslim and Christian students, boys and girls alike, across the barracks community.

Speaking at the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Ibikunle Ajose, highlighted the deeper message behind the gathering.

“We are here as one family no tribe, no religion. That is the spirit of the Nigerian Army, and that’s exactly what we witnessed here today in the barracks,” he stated.

General Ajose praised Reverend Father Orji for his vision and efforts in promoting unity through education. He commended the participants and their families, describing the students’ performances as “inspiring,” and announced generous prizes for the top ten finalists.

Winners of the Spelling Bee Competition Include, 1st Place: John Terse Orfega Awarded one year of school fees, a complete school uniform, bag, wristwatch, and three pairs of suits.

2nd Place: Jennifer Ashezi Sunday — To receive two terms of school fees, full school kits, and ₦50,000 cash.

3rd Place (Tie): Fatima Muntaka and Gertrude Ajeh each to receive two terms of school fees, complete kits, and ₦35,000.

The Reverend Father Orji expressed heartfelt gratitude and pride in the students’ achievements and the unity displayed.

“I never married or had children, but I will always celebrate children and education. That is my mission as a priest,” he said.

The event stood as a testament to the power of education in bridging divides and nurturing the next generation in a spirit of oneness and hope.
