The Peter Obi Media Office has accused some state governors of plotting to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that Nigerians would resist any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the polls.

The media office said no amount of electoral manipulation, intimidation or political manoeuvring would stop Nigerians from exercising their democratic rights and voting for their preferred candidates.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Indris Zekeri Jnr, the office cautioned governors against pursuing political strategies aimed at retaining power rather than earning the confidence of the electorate.

Reacting to what it described as covert moves by some governors to compromise the electoral process, the office insisted that any election that failed to meet the standards of freedom, fairness and transparency would be rejected by Nigerians.

“Regardless of their fraudulent efforts, they are presenting a poor product, and Nigerians will select the best option available in the market,” the statement said.

The media office also criticized what it described as growing desperation among some governors, accusing them of prioritizing electoral manipulation over delivering good governance.

It maintained that leadership should be earned through service and public trust rather than sustained through deceit, intimidation or interference with democratic institutions.

“Leadership is a privilege earned through service; it is not a mandate to retain power through deceit, intimidation, or interference with the democratic process,” the statement added.

According to the office, Nigerians are increasingly dissatisfied with leaders who have failed to meet public expectations and are determined to use their votes to demand political change.

It described the 2027 general election as a defining moment for the country, expressing confidence that voters would use the ballot box to reclaim Nigeria’s political direction.

The office warned that attempts to frustrate the people’s democratic choices would ultimately fail, stressing that no level of political intimidation or electoral manipulation could permanently suppress the collective will of Nigerians.

It also reaffirmed its support for former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as the preferred choice of many Nigerians.

The statement argued that Obi represents a credible political alternative, citing his competence, capacity, character, compassion and commitment to national development.

It expressed confidence that the former governor possesses the leadership qualities needed to address Nigeria’s challenges and restore the country’s dignity, prosperity and hope.

“The mandate rests with the people. Nigeria must function again, and it will be OK,” the statement concluded.
