The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects and financial commitments worth N144.006 billion across various sectors, including roads, education, healthcare, water supply, energy and public infrastructure.
The approvals were granted at the council’s 41st meeting held on Thursday, 24 September 2026, at the Malam Aminu Kano House, Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the meeting considered a wide range of issues affecting infrastructure, healthcare, education, human capital development, transportation, housing, security and cultural development.
The Ministry of Works received the largest allocation, with approvals totalling N84.976 billion for road construction and rehabilitation, public buildings and institutional infrastructure.
Major projects under the ministry include the reconstruction of the Rawul–Gani–Sitti–Masu–Gomo Road in Sumaila Local Government Area at N16.69 billion, construction of the Zaria Road–Gurjiya–Yankatsari–Rijiyar Gwangwan Road at N8.65 billion and additional works on the RMK Flyover–Obasanjo Flyover–Ibrahim Babangida Road–Mazugal Junction–Katsina Road corridor, including the Hajj Camp Road, at N8.88 billion.
The council also approved N6.80 billion for the review of the Suleiman Crescent and Lamido Crescent road contract in Nassarawa GRA and N6.04 billion for the completion of the Dawakin Kudu–Lahadin Makole Road.
In the education sector, the council approved N14.276 billion for various interventions, including school renovations, provision of furniture and facilities, payment of outstanding foodstuff supplies to boarding schools, accreditation exercises and counterpart funding for the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) matching grant.
The UBEC counterpart funding alone was approved at N6.119 billion, while N2.434 billion was approved to settle payments to foodstuff suppliers for boarding schools during the third term of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The health sector received approvals totalling N2.609 billion, covering the rehabilitation and upgrading of primary healthcare centres, hospitals, laboratories and students’ hostels at the College of Nursing Sciences.
Among the health projects are the upgrade of Kibiya and Albasu Primary Healthcare Centres to general hospitals at N521.95 million and N679.38 million respectively.
The council also approved N11.063 billion under the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, including 4.438 billion for the supply and installation of traffic bollards and N4.445 billion for reflective materials on streetlights, traffic signs and roadside infrastructure.
Other approvals included N2.408 billion for the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, N1.246 billion for power and renewable energy projects, N1.160 billion for the construction of the Amana City perimeter fence and gate, and N435 million for operational vehicles for the State Hisba Board.
Under the power sector, N636 million was approved for power supply at the Tamburawa and Watari water treatment plants, while N610 million was approved for two generating sets and medium-voltage panels at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.
The council also approved N368.74 million for the establishment and equipping of a Women Skills Acquisition Centre at Kofar Ruwa.
Beyond project approvals, the council approved the acquisition, in the overriding public interest, of Saymays Specialist Hospital at Gandun Albasa and a private property adjacent to the Infectious Diseases Hospital and Abubakar Imam Urology Centre along France Road.
It also approved a proposed public-private partnership for the development of the Kano Energy and SME Industrial Park at the AKK Industrial Layout, Tamburawa.
The council further approved the 2026 Supplementary Budget/Amendment of N1.201 trillion and directed that the proposal be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and approval.
The annual Kano Art and Cultural Festival, KANFEST 2026, was also approved as part of efforts to promote the state’s cultural heritage, creative industries and tourism.
On infrastructure concerns, the council directed the Ministry of Works to prepare and submit a detailed Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) for the rehabilitation of the Eastern Bypass–Tsamiya Babba–Larabawar Abasawa–Nera Roundabout section along Ringim Road, following concerns over its deteriorated condition.
The meeting also featured the presentation of several merit awards to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in recognition of his administration’s programs and projects across various sectors.
The government said the decisions taken at the meeting reflected its commitment to addressing infrastructure and developmental needs across Kano State.
