Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on couples participating in the 2026 Kano State Mass Wedding Program to build their homes on the enduring values of trust, patience, mutual respect, and the fear of Allah in order to enjoy peaceful and lasting marriages.
The Governor made the call during a one-day orientation programme organised for prospective couples by the State Hisbah Board at the Coronation Hall as part of activities lined up for the 2026 Mass Wedding Program, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday.
Represented by the Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Governor Yusuf urged the intending couples to regard marriage as a sacred institution founded on responsibility, compassion, and mutual understanding.
He advised them to remain faithful to one another, exercise patience and tolerance in times of difficulty, and always strive to resolve disagreements through dialogue and respect, noting that these virtues are essential for building stable families and a peaceful society.
Governor Yusuf stressed that every successful marriage is built on the fulfilment of rights and responsibilities by both spouses, adding that family stability remains a critical pillar for the development of any community.
The orientation programme featured lectures by respected Islamic scholars and professionals on key aspects of marital life. Sheikh Ali Aliyu Abubakar delivered a presentation on “The Wisdom of Marriage in Islam,” while Professor Ibrahim Mu’azzam Mai Bushira spoke on “The Rights and Responsibilities of Spouses in Islam.”
Participants also received guidance on the causes of marital conflicts and practical approaches to resolving them in accordance with Islamic teachings by Sheikh Muhammad Nur Arzai.
Other personalities who delivered goodwill messages at the programme included Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehi Shehi Mai Hula, Dr. Zahara’u Muhammad Umar, and Dr. Khadija Sagir Suleiman, who enlightened the prospective couples on various social, legal, religious, and health issues relating to marriage.
Although the programme initially targeted 1,500 couples, the Kano State Government has provided each groom with ten yards of shadda fabric, a cap, a bag of rice, and a jerrycan of cooking oil to support the commencement of their marital lives.
Each bride will receive N200,000 to cover her dowry and provide start-up capital for a small business.
In addition, every bride will be presented with essential household items, including a bed, mattress, wardrobe, dressing mirror, blankets, bed sheets, and a centre rug.
Activities for the mass wedding will continue until Sunday. On Friday, marriage solemnisation ceremonies will be conducted at the Central Jumu’ah Mosque in Kano metropolis and simultaneously at the headquarters of all the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
The program will also feature a grand wedding reception at the Open Arena, Government House, before concluding on Sunday with the distribution of household furniture and other support items to the newly married couples.
