The Federal Ministry of Education has approved an upward review of the examination fee for the National Examinations Council (NECO) to N50,000, effective from the 2027 examination.
The directive was contained in a letter dated 18 June 2026, signed by the Director of Senior Secondary School Education, Adeniji Ibrahim, on behalf of the Minister.
According to the ministry, the letter followed a request made at a meeting held on 31 March 2026, during which the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) proposed that both WAEC and NECO adopt a uniform examination fee.
The ministry further stated that the approved fee of N50,000 will take effect from the 2027 NECO Internal Examination and directed NECO to communicate the development to all relevant stakeholders.
